To effectively work with the php.ini file in your cPanel hosting setup, follow these organized steps:

  1. Access cPanel and File Manager: Log into your cPanel account and navigate to the File Manager.

  2. Enable Hidden Files: Under the Settings menu, ensure that Show Hidden Files (dotfiles) is enabled to access the php.ini file.

  3. Locate the Correct Directory:

    • For a main domain (e.g., testwebsite.com), navigate to /home/cPanel_user/.system-php/ini and select the appropriate PHP version folder (e.g., 7.0).
    • For an addon domain (e.g., blog.testwebsite.com), find the subdomain path in cPanel's Domains or Addon Domains section, then locate /home/cPanel_user/.system-php/ini/[PHP Version]/[Addon Subdomain].
  4. Edit the php.ini File:

    • Right-click on the php.ini file and select Edit.
    • Make necessary changes, such as increasing memory limits or upload sizes (e.g., upload_max_filesize).
  5. Save Changes: After editing, save the changes to apply the new settings.

  6. Verify Configuration: Check if your changes took effect by reviewing PHP info pages or error logs. Ensure that adjustments don't negatively impact other users in a shared environment.

  7. Consider Backup and Caution: Always back up php.ini before editing and adjust only what's necessary for your site to avoid widespread issues.
