To configure SSL on your Apache server using a Comodo certificate, follow these steps:

  1. Edit the Apache Configuration File:

    • Open the default configuration file with a text editor:
      sudo nano /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default.conf

    • Ensure the file is edited in a way that allows you to save changes.
  2. Enable SSL and Set Directives:

    • Add or uncomment the following directives at the top of the configuration file:
      SSLProxySetupExponentBundle 1
      SSLCACertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/root.crt
      SSLPrivateKeyFile /etc/ssl/certs/intermediate.crt

    • Enable SSL in the VirtualHost block:
      <VirtualHost *:80>
        SSLEngine on
      </VirtualHost>

    • Specify TLS protocols to use modern versions:
      SSLProtocol all -TLSv1_2:+TLSv1_3

  3. Download and Install Certificates:

    • Obtain the Comodo Root CA and Intermediate CA certificates from Comodo's SSL website.
    • Place these files in /etc/ssl/certs/.
  4. Restart Apache:

    sudo systemctl restart apache2

  5. Test SSL Configuration:

    • Access your site using HTTPS to ensure SSL is enabled and working properly.
