URL Frame (also known as masked forwarding or domain masking) allows you to display a different website under your own domain while keeping your domain name visible in the browser's address bar.

This guide will walk you through how to set up a URL Frame using common domain management tools.

What You’ll Need

  • Access to your domain registrar or DNS management portal
  • The destination URL (where you want your domain to point)

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1: Log into Your Domain Dashboard

  1. Go to your domain provider’s dashboard.
  2. Select the domain you want to configure.

Step 2: Find the URL Forwarding Section

Look for a section labeled:

  • "URL Forwarding"
  • "Domain Forwarding"
  • "Web Forwarding"

⚠️ If you're using Esadax, this will be under the Domain Settings > URL Forwarding tab.

Step 3: Choose “URL Frame” or “Masked Forwarding”

  1. Select URL Frame or Masked Redirect as the forwarding type.
  2. In the destination URL field, enter the full URL of the website you want to display (e.g., https://example-site.com).

Step 4: Configure Meta Tags (Optional)

Some platforms allow you to add:

  • Page Title
  • Meta Description
  • Meta Keywords

This helps with SEO and how the framed page appears in browser tabs and search engines.

Step 5: Save Your Changes

Click Save or Apply. It may take up to 15 minutes for changes to propagate.

Example Use Case

If you own yourbrand.com and want it to show the content of yourstore.myshopify.com without revealing the Shopify URL, URL Frame lets you mask it — users will only see yourbrand.com.

Considerations and Limitations

  • Framing Restrictions: Some websites block being shown inside a frame (using headers like X-Frame-Options: DENY).
  • SEO Impact: Search engines may not index framed pages properly.
  • Browser Compatibility: Modern browsers may show warnings or block content in iframes depending on security policies.

Troubleshooting

Issue Solution
Destination site doesn't load Ensure it allows iframe embedding.
Broken layout or missing styles Target site might have CSP (Content Security Policy) blocking embedding.
Page shows blank Double-check that you entered the correct URL
