This guide outlines the steps required to generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) using OpenSSL and upload it to your Esadax account.

Introduction

A CSR is a digital certificate that allows a Certificate Authority (CA) to issue an SSL/TLS certificate. This guide assumes you have already purchased or obtained a domain name and are ready to secure it with an SSL certificate.

Preparing Your Environment

  1. Install OpenSSL: Ensure OpenSSL is installed on your system. For Debian/Ubuntu, install it using:

    sudo apt-get install openssl

    For macOS, use Homebrew:

    brew install openssl

  2. Create a Private Key File: Generate a private key file for SSL operations.

    openssl req -x509 -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -out priv_key.pem

Replace priv_key.pem with your desired filename.

Generating the CSR

  1. Create the CSR File: Use the private key to generate a CSR.

openssl csr -new x509 -key priv_key.pem -out csr.pem

Replace csr.pem with your desired filename.

  2. CSR Details: Ensure the following details are correct in the CSR:

    • Common Name (CN): Your domain name (e.g., example.com).
    • Subject Alternative Names (SANs): Include any subdomains, like www.example.com.
    • Administrative Contact: Provide an email address for the admin@domain.

Uploading to Esadax

  1. Log in to Esadax: Access your Esadax account via their website.

  2. Navigate to SSL Section: Go to the SSL/TLS section in your account settings.

  3. Upload CSR:

    • Click on "Add Domain" or the relevant domain.
    • Upload csr.pem and follow the prompts to submit the request.
  4. Esadax Requirements:

    • Ensure the domain matches exactly as registered with them.
    • Provide any required organizational details if applying for an EV (Extended Validation) certificate.

Additional Notes

  • Verification: Esadax may require domain control validation, which involves verifying ownership through a method like email or DNS CNAME setup.
  • Support: Check Esadax's support page for specific requirements and additional instructions.
