Generating a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) is an essential step for obtaining an SSL certificate, which is necessary for securing your WordPress site with HTTPS. Below, we'll guide you through the process of generating a CSR using WPGO.
Steps to Generate a CSR
-
Log in to Your WPGO Dashboard
- Navigate to your Esadax account and log in to the WPGO dashboard where your WordPress site is hosted.
-
Access the SSL/TLS Settings
- In your dashboard, look for the security or SSL/TLS settings section. This can usually be found under "Plugins" > "Wordpress Dashboard" > "SSL & TLS."
-
Fill in the CSR Form
- You will see a form where you need to provide specific details:
- Domain Name: Enter your domain name as it is registered.
- Country Code: Select your country from the dropdown list.
- State/Province: Enter your state or province.
- City/Town: Provide your city or town.
- Organization Name: This field is optional but recommended for clarity. If you're a sole proprietor, "Individual" can be used.
- Email Address: Enter your email address.
- Fill in all the required fields accurately.
-
Generate and Save Your CSR
- After filling out the form, click on the "Generate" button to create the CSR.
- Copy the entire text of the CSR as it appears on the screen. This is important because you'll need to provide this to your SSL provider to issue your certificate.
-
Save Your Private Key
- Once the CSR is generated, you will also see a private key displayed on the screen. This key is crucial for installing your SSL certificate later.
- Save this private key by copying and pasting it into a text file. Name the file something like
your_domain_name.txt.
-
Submit the CSR to Your SSL Provider
- Provide the generated CSR to your chosen SSL provider (e.g., Let's Encrypt, Comodo, or other trusted providers).
- After they issue the certificate, download it and install it on your WordPress site.
Why Generate a CSR?
- A CSR is required by Certificate Authorities (CAs) to verify that you are the legitimate owner of the domain name.
- Once generated, the CSR is sent to the CA, which then issues the SSL/TLS certificate based on the information provided in the CSR.
Important Notes
- Never Lose Your Private Key: The private key is essential for installing your SSL certificate. If you lose it, you'll need to generate a new one, and your existing SSL certificate will become invalid.
- Use the Correct Domain Name: Ensure that the domain name entered in the CSR matches exactly with the one registered in your account.
